The Department of Tourism, Government of Assam is the nodal agency in framing policies and programmes for the development and promotion of Tourism in Assam. The Department consults and collaborates with the stakeholders for balanced development of the sector.
Assam's Tourism Department was established in the year 1958. It has come a long way since it's humble beginning with today Tourism in the state having gained universal acceptance as a potent engine for comprehensive socio – economic development.
Tourism Department are responsible for monitoring the implementation of projects for which financial assistance is sanctioned both by the centre as well as the state.
The main function of the Directorate of Tourism is to implement/ execute the policies of the Government. The Annual plan, the Perspective plan or vision plan are prepared by this Directorate. The Prioritization with the budget provision, enactment of the Acts and rules of the state Government are vested upon the Directorate of Tourism.
Role and Functions of the Department are as follows:
